Native Plant Reimbursement Grants

"As of July 15, Metro Blooms has disbursed all funding available to us in 2009 to reimburse gardeners in Hennepin County. Applications for native plant reimbursement grants are no longer being accepted. Funds were disbursed on a first come , first serve basis. "

Because native plants are a key to planting a successful raingarden, our cities, watershed districts, and Metro Blooms encourages homeowners by offering financial incentives to purchase native plants. With the help of the Hennepin County Natural Resources Incentives for Natural Habitat (NRICH) Program and the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District, Metro Blooms is able to offer a limited number of $100 Native Plant and Installation Reimbursement matching grants to landowners who have purchased native plants, and planted them in raingardens, and can document the purchase and installation on their land.

Grants are available to Raingarden Workshop participants on a first-come, first-served basis with the submission of an application, documentation of costs, submission of before and after photographs.

Workshop Participants outside of Hennepin County and the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District may be eligible for other reimbursement programs.  Area specific information will be available at the workshop.

Metro Blooms will reimburse up to a $100 maximum amount, or 75% of the costs of native plants and other raingarden materials costs purchased by you, (whichever is least) for raingarden installation only. Delivery fees for plants or materials are not reimbursable.

Native plants purchased with grant funds must

  • be planted in a raingarden, or
  • used to stabilize or restore an eroded area, and/or
  • reduce stormwater runoff on your lot.
